The TIRESYAS project (Technology Innovation for Radar European System ApplicationS)
A flagship research initiative conducted under the European Defence Fund (EDF) 2022. It focuses on the development of advanced radar technologies designed to counter evolving threats, including hypersonic missiles, by significantly enhancing the resilience and durability of sensors.
Project Objectives and Scope
The primary objective of TIRESYAS is to strengthen European defense capabilities by developing innovative approaches to radar surveillance and target tracking. The project serves as a direct continuation and expansion of the collaboration established during the ARTURO program (EDF 2021).
Key research areas include:
Architectural Innovation: Developing groundbreaking algorithms capable of integrating diverse radar architectures.
Digital Transformation: Working toward a fully digital, multifunctional radar system that operates across multiple domains and platforms.
Electronic Resilience: Increasing sensor resistance to sophisticated interference and modern electronic warfare (EW) countermeasures.
International Consortium
The project is coordinated by the Italian industrial leader Leonardo SpA. The extensive international consortium comprises leading European research institutions and defense industry representatives from countries including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Estonia, and Greece. Alongside XY-Sensing, the Polish defense sector is also represented by Bumar Elektronika SA.
