The TALON project (Tactical Affordable Loitering Ordnance and Nodes)
An advanced technological initiative funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF 2025). XYSensing, as the Polish partner within this prestigious international consortium, is committed to developing a new generation of affordable and highly effective unmanned systems designed to revolutionize operational capabilities in demanding environments.
About the Project
The primary objective of the TALON project is to develop a holistic, modern approach to loitering munition that integrates artificial intelligence at the edge (Edge AI), modular architecture, and swarm intelligence. This initiative focuses on creating a new family of interoperable Unmanned Combat Aerial Systems (UCAS) capable of operating effectively in GNSS-denied conditions and environments heavily contested by electronic warfare (EW).
TALON places a strong emphasis on a "design-to-cost" philosophy to ensure mass production capability while maintaining the highest technological standards. The system introduces "plug-and-play" modularity and AI-driven decision support, providing tactical flexibility while ensuring full human control over lethal actions.
Key Operational Capabilities
The solutions developed under the TALON project will provide comprehensive support and a decisive edge on the modern battlefield:
Edge AI Autonomy: Advanced AI algorithms processed locally on the device, enabling real-time autonomous decision-making.
Swarm Intelligence: The capability for multiple units to coordinate actions to perform complex missions and overwhelm enemy defenses.
Interference Resilience: A system designed to operate in environments lacking satellite navigation (GNSS-denied) and under heavy electronic warfare.
Secure Connectivity: Utilization of quantum-resistant communication, guaranteeing the highest level of security for transmitted data.
Modularity and Scalability: An architecture allowing for the rapid exchange of warheads and sensors based on mission requirements.
Cost Efficiency: Optimization of production processes to enable the acquisition of a large volume of equipment while maintaining high combat parameters.
Project Overview
TALON is being implemented as part of the European Defence Fund's (EDF 2025) "Spin-in" development actions, specifically addressing affordable mass-produced drone-based munitions. The project is scheduled for a duration of 24 months and encompasses knowledge integration, feasibility studies, design, prototyping, and system testing.
