The SCEPTER project (European Multifunction System Concept applied to Communications, Electronic Warfare and Radar)
A prestigious research initiative implemented under the European Defence Fund (EDF) 2024. It focuses on creating an advanced, multifunctional system that integrates radar functions, electronic warfare, and communications, while utilizing adaptive cognitive features.
Project Objective and Scope
The primary objective of SCEPTER is to significantly enhance situational awareness across the air, land, and sea domains. The project aims to develop modular and interoperable solutions that optimize the use of the electromagnetic spectrum and provide greater operational flexibility.
Key research areas include:
Developing standardized hardware and software for multifunctional systems.
Integrating advanced antennas and modern technologies that meet strict requirements for size, weight, and power (SWaP), particularly for aerial platforms.
Addressing challenges related to thermal management and signal integrity to ensure reliability in diverse operational environments.
Implementing cognitive functions that allow the system to adapt to a dynamically changing battlefield.
Project Consortium
The project is coordinated by the Spanish company Indra Sistemas SA. The broad international consortium includes leading European defence corporations and research institutes such as:
