The GARUDA project (reconfiGurable Autonomous collaborative Unmanned Aircraft)

About the Project

In response to the growing challenges of the modern battlefield, the GARUDA project focuses on creating a flexible platform capable of evolving with changing defense needs. This initiative emphasizes the development of systems that can seamlessly integrate with existing and future aerial assets.

A key element of the project is the innovative "design and simulate" process, which relies on the iterative improvement of system designs through advanced operational simulations. This approach allows for the creation of a versatile platform based on a common technological core, facilitating the rapid deployment of specialized variants tailored to specific missions. XYSensing, as a Polish partner in a prestigious consortium coordinated by ONERA, contributes to the development of these breakthrough technologies.

Key Operational Capabilities of the System

The solutions developed within the GARUDA project will provide a new quality in conducting aerial operations:

  • Autonomous Collaboration: The ability of unmanned systems to intelligently cooperate with manned aircraft in complex environments.

  • Common Core Architecture: Utilizing a shared system base to create diverse design variants, significantly accelerating the development of new capabilities.

  • Long-term Adaptability: The possibility of rapid platform reconfiguration to adapt to the dynamically changing requirements of the battlefield.

  • Advanced Iterative Design: Utilizing a feedback loop between the design phase and combat simulation to optimize platform performance.

  • Fleet Scalability: The ability to effectively manage groups of unmanned aerial vehicles supporting various combat and reconnaissance tasks.

Basic Project Information

The GARUDA project is implemented under the European Defence Fund (EDF 2024) program in the area of research activities concerning air combat. The initiative focuses on Unmanned Collaborative Combat Aircraft (U-CCA) systems working with combat aviation.

The undertaking encompasses a wide range of work, including in-depth studies and design activities. The international consortium involves entities from across Europe, with XYSensing representing the Polish contribution to this advanced defense initiative.
