The BATTLEPAD project (Single end-user Device for Secure Command, Control and Communication

An initiative funded by the European Defence Fund (EDF 2023). Its goal is to strengthen the defense potential and technological sovereignty of the European Union through the development of modern and secure end-user devices intended for command, control, and communication systems.

About the Project

In an era of widespread mobile technology use, the BATTLEPAD project aims to push technological boundaries in the area of security and reliability for devices such as smartphones and tablets. This initiative responds to the growing demand in the defense sector for dedicated SD4SC3 (Secure Command, Control and Communication) solutions.

The primary objective of the project is to create tools that ensure high resilience to threats while utilizing sovereign hardware and software solutions. The development of these technologies is of key importance for the effectiveness of military operations and the security of data transmission in the demanding environment of the battlefield.

Key Operational Capabilities of the System

Solutions developed within the BATTLEPAD project will provide comprehensive support for end-users in the defense sector:

  • Secure Command and Control (Secure C2): Ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of data during operations management.

  • Reliable Connectivity: Utilization of advanced communication protocols resistant to interference.

  • Technological Sovereignty: Basing the system on European hardware components and software, reducing dependence on suppliers from outside the EU.

  • Innovative End-User Devices: Optimization of mobile devices (EUD) for the specific requirements of military missions.

  • Increased Resilience and Reliability: Adaptation of hardware for operation in difficult conditions while maintaining the highest digital security standards.

Basic Project Information

The BATTLEPAD project is implemented under the European Defence Fund (EDF 2023) program in the area dedicated to development actions for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). The undertaking, planned for 36 months, covers the full cycle of engineering work, including feasibility studies, design, construction of system prototypes, and their testing.
