BiRaKos

The objective of the project is to develop a technology demonstrator (TRL 6) of an ultra-long-range bistatic radar dedicated to space surveillance and tracking of objects in Low Earth Orbit (LEO, 200–2,000 km). The system will operate in a bistatic configuration, with a planned upgrade path toward a multistatic architecture.

The project scope includes the design and manufacturing of a transmitter featuring a multi-antenna phased array mounted on a high-precision rotary positioner, enabling accurate beam steering in space. The reception subsystem will rely on multi-element antenna arrays: initial stages will leverage an antenna station of the international LOFAR (Low-Frequency Array) radio telescope network, followed by the deployment of a prototype and operational demonstrator of the dedicated BiRaKos bistatic radar receiver.

The final outcome of the project will provide the analytical, software, and technological foundation for the domestic development and deployment of a networked space observation radar infrastructure, securing sovereign capabilities to monitor near-Earth space directly from Polish territory.
